There has been much speculation about what would replace the “old courthouse.”

Unfortunately, this property is in a trust and can not be sold and has to be used by the public.  Some say the old courthouse should never have been demolished and could have been utilized instead of being leveled. Some say there is a secret plan to build one large building to house both the Joliet and Will County governments. We have seen drawings of this, but no further progress has been made, and quite frankly, we don’t need another building. See the diagrams that were posted by the executive office before any talks were approved by the board.
The county currently owns two vacant buildings and the county hasn’t grown to facilitate buying another. Walk through the county building any time during the day and the offices are half empty and there are virtually no residents walking around. With so much being done online now, the building we have should suffice. If there was any sense to it, we would build a campus on Laraway Road next to the other buildings we have out there.

Considering all this, I suggested that we build an outdoor venue to bring people downtown. Even though it’s not the county’s responsibility to rejuvenate the area, I feel that we should invest in a project that will benefit the residents. I sit on the committee that oversees the demolishing and replacement of the “old courthouse.” I proposed an outdoor venue; see the video here – https://www.facebook.com/LoganforWillCounty/videos/858493349493048 Something very similar to the Pritzker Pavilion in Chicago. I would add food trucks to the west end and have a company in charge of booking FREE concerts. In the winter, we would freeze the area and have an ice rink, the only outdoor one around. Imagine having your wedding outdoors? Did someone say farmer’s markets?

The county board passed a resolution to go out and get proposals (RFPs) to have this designed and built. In the meantime, we also passed a resolution to have the area fenced off as there are many tripping hazards surrounding the green area and we do not want any resident falling and being injured before we can even start construction.

I want to see the costs and designs. Luckily, there are grants to build it, and we will use video gaming revenue to sustain it. Video Gaming is another project that I pushed to get going in Will County, which has also passed and will be starting soon. See my blog on this.

I am looking forward to overseeing this project, but it requires that I get re-elected ion November. 🙂 If not, this area very well could be another taxpayer built, unnecessary building. 🙁

County Board Member Vince Logan is pushing for a new state law to protect car buyers by making it mandatory that anyone selling a vehicle to another unrelated party must provide the potential buyer with a current, complete, and accurate vehicle history using one of several bonafide providers. Logan said, “I buy cars for a dealership here in Joliet. Too many times, I have to be the bearer of bad news and tell the customer that their vehicle has frame damage or a rollback issue. All of them have no idea and bought it that way and it is clearly listed on a vehicle history report.”  Here is an example of a history report.

Frame damage on a car refers to any damage to the structural integrity of the vehicle’s frame, which forms the backbone of the vehicle. This frame supports the vehicle’s body, engine, and other major components. The frame also absorbs and distributes the energy from impacts, providing protection to passengers in the event of a collision. Frame damage is often costly to repair and can significantly reduce the car’s value. It can also make the car unsafe to drive, which is why it’s essential to get it checked by a professional if you suspect frame damage. The main cause of this is an accident or flooding. Poor quality repairs, manufacturing defects and hitting a road hazard can also damage the frame.

Rollback refers to the illegal practice of tampering with a vehicle’s odometer to reduce the recorded mileage, making it appear as though the car has been driven less than it actually has. This deception is typically used by unscrupulous sellers to inflate the resale value of the vehicle, since lower mileage generally indicates less wear and tear and can fetch a higher price.

Logan believes that if potential buyers are given the history, the amount of fraud will cease. Since the county has a unique form of government, the board is not allowed to create laws for the county, so Logan is addressing this with the general assembly in Springfield.

One of the most frustrating parts of being a voice for the people and a public servant is the constant need to raise money for campaigning. It’s a necessary evil, but one that comes with serious risks. Campaign contributions, often defended as free speech, have become a gateway to corruption. When candidates for public office accept large sums of money from special interest groups, corporations, or wealthy individuals, we must ask ourselves: Whose interests are truly being represented?

When politicians accept these donations, they can become beholden to their donors rather than the people who elected them. This creates a dangerous conflict of interest, where policy decisions, votes, and legislative priorities may be shaped by financial contributions instead of the needs and desires of the American people. All too often, this means that critical issues—like healthcare, economic fairness, and even our national security—are overshadowed by the interests of those who can afford to pay for access and influence.

This is unacceptable. It undermines the very foundation of our democracy, where every citizen’s vote should carry equal weight, regardless of their financial status.

That’s why I’ve made a commitment: I will not accept campaign contributions from any organization or individual who could potentially benefit from my vote. My friends can support me, and my party can contribute, but if a company with a vested interest in legislation or contracts wants to donate, I say, “No, thanks.” When a company that may submit contracts for bids tries to contribute, I refuse.

I run a tight campaign, and every penny spent is treated like it’s coming out of my own pocket—because it is. This is how we restore integrity to our elections and ensure that every vote is cast in the best interest of the public, not the highest bidder.

I call on all citizens, policymakers, and advocacy groups to join me in this fight. Let’s end the corrupting influence of money in politics and ensure that our government remains of the people, by the people, and for the people.

Today, at the monthly board meeting, the democrats questioned granting a NPO $75,000 to start a van service that will be instrumental in getting Narcan and much-needed counseling to areas of Will County and combat the opioid crisis! The money is NOT from taxpayers, but from a lawsuit, and can only be used for opioid-related issues.
They didn’t bat an eye at steamrolling an $814,000,000 budget, but they questioned $75,000 for helping people in need who wouldn’t otherwise get help.
Come on Democrats, be better!!

The “old courthouse” will soon be another memory. Records show that this courthouse was number four (4) in Will County’s history, dating back to 1836.
The area will be a green space until we can determine what the best use of it should be. A new building and a parking lot have been eliminated from the possibilities.
We need to preserve some history and make this a destination place.

Last week at the Executive Board Meeting, I introduced permitting VIDEO GAMING in Will County (unincorporated). We currently have 18 establishments that are active with gaming. These were started before Will County prohibited it.
These currently generate approximately $324,000 annually. By permitting gaming, establishments could seek licenses and begin generating income for both their enterprises and our county. We could surpass $1,000,000 annually in fees and revenue! This could alleviate some of the tax pressure on residents caused by our significantly inflated budget.
